In reflective mood
We don’t have a Thanksgiving holiday over here in England. Our harvest festival has been and gone, and the last of the clingfilm wrapped trays of tinned soup and apples were delivered to the local pensioners weeks ago. But I do think a day of giving thanks is a good idea. Personally speaking I don’t do enough of it.| There are so many things that happen every day that it's easy to take for granted |
I don’t really need an expert in positive psychology to tell me that focusing on what’s good in my life is a much healthier and happier way of being than ruminating on what’s wrong. That’s obvious, right?? But maybe I do need to be forced to do it a bit more often. I don’t know if it’s the weather or just being British but it just seems more natural to me to gossip and gloom monger than to give thanks for all the little good things in life. And it's so easy to stop noticing the good things that happen each and everyday; they become part of the routine and I know I take them for granted
The unusual I notice, but what about the people and things around me everyday?
So this post is my little adventure in positivity for Thanksgiving. A few words and pictures to say thanks for the things I generally take for granted; for the food that has always been in my larder, the roof over my head, the family around me.
For family and music and family music
For singing and dancing, music and art. For reading and writing, playing and learning, fun and games. For freedom and choice, love, laughter and a thirst for living.
For this incredible place that I can call home
For air and water, mountain top and valley bottom, lakes and rivers, forests and flowers, birds and beasts, sun, rain, sleet and snow.
For freedom and strength and fun
For living and breathing and health and well being. For boats, bikes, boots, tracks, trails and the open road. For incredible opportunities, an open mind, a spirit of adventure.
For sunrise and sunset. Everyday.
That's quite a lot to be thankful for. But not forgetting you. Thanks for reading.

Lovely post and I think you're right that most of us don't take time to stop and think of everything we're thankful for often enough. I know I don't.
ReplyDeleteWe should definitely all take the time to be thankful a little more often. Thank you for the lovely reminder. This morning I'm thankful for my kids who bring me absolute joy even when they're trying my patience, our home that is always full of song, sunny days and people that make me laugh.
