Climb in the Shadow of Blencathra: Keswick to Penrith (Winter C2C Day 3)

C2C signage means you're unlikely to get lost...
After an evening of games and well earned rest at the family run Lyzzick Hall Hotel, day 3 of our Coast to Coast ride saw us head from UnderSkiddaw back through Keswick and onto Penrith. In case there wouldn't be enough climbing we took time out to visit the Keswick Climbing Wall and the famous Castlerigg Stone Circle close nearby. Then we rode up and down, up and down all the way to Penrith, arriving by torchlight well after the sun had set. Not that we saw the sun.

The homely atmosphere at Lyzzick Hall had a strange effect on the kids behaviour

What with a puncture to fix and bags to load, it took a while to get on the road

Rested and relaxed we were sorry to leave the lovely Lyzzick Hall

We set off for the day from UnderSkiddaw in the Northern Lakes, just outside of Keswick

And climbed uphill to the Keswick Climbing Wall, for a spot more climbing with lots of other families
You can read more about our climbing experience at the Wall.

Our boys quickly made themselves at home on the bouldering wall

While the girls headed for the pink section

Across the road at Castlerigg Stone Circle there were crows but no Druids. And no climbing.

But that didn't last long once back on the C2C heading to Penrith, in the shadow of Blencathra

Well not much shadow in this weather, but plenty of climbing, up and down (mostly up) all the way to Penrith

We did this C2C ride across England, from Workington to Sunderland, as part of our Family Adventure Capital Season. We're exploring different ways families can adventure together in and around Cumbria, sharing ideas and inspiration to encourage families to get out, get active and adventure together. Got some ideas for things we should try? Let us know.
