| The writing was on the road today.. this way, until you reach the sculpture. |

We expected to finish our Coast to Coast ride on Friday night, but after helping out the striking miners at Beamish, then dealing with a puncture, we ended up rolling up at the Premier Inn Sunderland in the dark and it didn't seem like such a good idea. We didn't see much of the start in Workington due to freezing fog and didn't fancy finishing in the cold and dark. So we waited till Sunday morning, when the sun finally showed up in Sunderland, making for a glorious last few miles to find the official finish point.
| By Sunday morning we were relaxed and raring to go after a few good nights rest |
| It was a beautiful sunny winter's morning, perfect for ride along the River Wear towards the finish |
| And there was plenty of interest in the last four miles to make a day of it! |
| This being a Sunday in Sunderland, the Sun had to make an appearance |
| Along with many interesting sculptures reflecting the areas industrial heritage |
| There was time for meditation over the weeks achievements |
| And time to hang out in other ways too |
After a little asking around we found out we'd already been hanging out
at the C sculpture that marks the official end of the route. |
| Which only left one other thing to do |
| Sea to Sea. Coast to Coast. C2C. Mission Accomplished. |

We did this C2C ride across England, from Workington to Sunderland, as part of our Family Adventure Capital Season. We're exploring different ways families can adventure together in and around Cumbria, sharing ideas and inspiration to encourage families to get out, get active and adventure together. Got some ideas for things we should try? Let us know.

Glad you had such a glorious end to the week.well done to you all. Sorry you had so many punctures. We ride with schwalbe marathon plus tyres and hardly ever have punctures.

Brenda, Thanks. One of our punctures was on a Marathon Exped grade tyre, but the glass in the North East is tougher still than those!
DeleteI live in the NE so that,s how I discovered the Marathon plus - there,s glass everywhere!!BTW how did you get back to Cumbria with all yur tandems and the other bike and trailer. We could do it in the 80's but apparently you can't take a tandem on the trains now. We had enough trouble getting 2 bikes to Cornwall.
DeleteWe did it the hard way, no not cycling back, but went back on the train without bikes to retrieve the car, then drove back again to retrieve the bikes. Madness? No, that's cycling the C2C in winter.
DeleteWhat a great week. Glad you ended in sunshine after the mixed fog and murk earlier in the week.
