Top 10 Items for Family Cycling Tour
So I saw this post on Twitter, Top 10 Most Important Items on a Bike Tour and it got me wondering what would our kids list would look like? So I asked them.
“Boys, what would be your top ten items for a happy family cycling tour?”
They sat quietly on their own for ten minutes (making the exercise worthwhile in itself) and scribbled their top 10 lists. No discussion, no consultation, no copying.
And here is what they said.

Panniers and packing for a bike tour
A seven year old’s cycle touring packing list
First the younger one (age 7)
- Sweets
- Money
- Gelli baff
- Toothbrush
- Toys
- Nintendo DS
- Mini pen-knife and torch
- Books
- Blankets, dressing gown and pillow
- Puncture kit
An eight year old’s cycle touring packing list
And then the older one (age 8 and a half)
- Sweets
- Money
- No baths
- Rounders set
- Toys
- MP3
- Books
- Thermarests for bouncy fun
- Sleeping bag and tent (hide and seek)
- Pens and paper
There’s seems to be a strong consensus about the importance of sweets and money. Should I be worried?
