Camping on Farleton Fell Cumbria
Outdoor Adventure Week is usually sometime in May. Did you know? I didn’t… but I do now and it’s marked in the diary.
Shame it falls on a school week. Or is it?
Maybe it’s an opportunity to disrupt the rhythm of the week and inject a microadventure into the routine of everyday living. A chance to build some of those adventure habits into regular life.
Boys heading off for a wild night out camping after school
Now that’s got me thinking. Why not adventure on a school night?
Why not stuff school shoes, book bags and uniforms in a rucksack instead of a book bag?
Heading off to bed… with bookbag and school uniform in my rucksack
Why not make homework fieldwork? Study the land or the stars. Have a mini geography field trip. Learn about navigation, cooking or some camp skills. Make your own outdoor classroom and spend an evening learning outside.
We can do our homework out here
Why not grab toothbrushes, tent and sleeping bags, food, drinks and torch and head off into the night. A night hike is a great way to make somewhere familiar feel quite unfamiliar.
Take a walk up the fell, have a late night snack, pitch the tent, tell stories under the stars. Sleep deeply in your sleeping bags.
Then take breakfast in bed before you get up and head off to school.
Wild camping on Farleton Fell
Why can’t you go wild camping on a school night?
Of course you can. If you want to. I do and I bet the kids will too.
See you on the fell..
