Doctor Dolly’s Cure for Boredom
Boredom doesn’t just strike at home. It can happen on holiday. Even on the back of a tandem. How quickly the novelty of being on a tandem seemed to wear off for Hannah, as we arrived in Holland and began our mini-tour.
I’m bored
“Where are we going?”
“When are we going to get there?”
“Where’s the playground?”
“Why is it a long way?”
Hannah was definitely fed up of cycling. After little more than an hour. Her first morning riding stoker on the back of the tandem was just too long for her. She was spending more time whinging than sightseeing, pedaling or enjoying herself.

Setting off for Holland everything seemed fine
What’s the cure for boredom, Doctor Dolly?
By afternoon everyone was feeling the miles as the whining stepped up into top gear. I decided dolly might be the cure. And she was soon stuck to the rear handlebars with gaffer tape.
But she had no helmet which set a bad example so we made one, origami style.
Maybe it was dolly or maybe a sunny cycle along coastal track but Doctor Dolly seemed to be the cure for Hannah who sang happily all the way to the camp site.
“Miss Polly had a dolly who was sick, sick, sick….”

Doctor Dolly recommend riding on the bars as a cure for boredom
